Brocken Spectre weekend

Brocken Spectre weekend

Postby Paul Webster » Tue Nov 08, 2011 9:49 am

Probably the hillwalking weekend of the year was capped off for me by this Brocken Spectre on Garbh Bheinn:

Lucky me, I thought... then I get back to look through the walk reports on Walkhighlands, and it seems they were everywhere:

On the Sgurr na Ciche range with Dooterbang:

With Stretch on the Aonachs:

On Ben Narnain with soulminer:

At the Whangie with blisterpack

On Ben Lui with Gavin99

Beinn a' Ghlo with paul2610

On the Carneddau with malky_c

Any more?

And if that wasn't enough, what about this Spectre captured by Kinley on Arran:

I'd noticed a few in reports, but there are even more than I thought :D

I saw one too, but it was hidden away on the'Outside Scotland' page, on my way down Carnedd Dafydd:

I'd have swapped two Carnedd Dafydds with you to be on Garbh Bheinn in those conditions though

It's very faint but with it being the first time I've experienced it, I'm going to claim it :D this was taken on the descent from Stob Binnien:

These are a stunning set of photos - congratulations to everyone. We're quite into atmospheric optics and have seen a good few websites devoted to them, but have never seen Brocken spectre pictures as good as these. Some of them, with three or four big, brightly-coloured rings, are just incredible! Sadly never seen one in the flesh - nearest we got was a possible faint fogbow on An Teallach...!

All the best,

Daniel and Clare
