Having only 12 munros to go before I complete.. I thought I must post a trip report as some folk out there may question if I have climbed any!
Alarm went off at 4am on Sunday morning and I snoozed it a few times. Eventually got up at 420am and ready to leave Glasgow by 445am. The drive through Glenshee was spooky and at one point I had to drive at 10mph due to thick fog. I was wishing I hadn’t watched that horror movie on Friday night.
Set off from Linn of Dee carpark at 730am and was guided by the moon and my head torch along the track. First check of the map just across the white bridge where two tracks appear, keeping on the left track. Kept on the track and followed it past Bynack burn. I had two small river crossings and just before Geldie Lodge had to strip off to cross as it was knee deep.
Continued with the bike passed Geldie lodge until just in front of Scarsoch bheag where I abandoned the bike. Continued on the good track which took me down to the Allt Coire an t-Seillich where I crossed and slipped on a mossy rock and ended up soaking wet.
Headed west through thick boggy ground up to the summit of Carn an Fhidleir. Quite a slog.
Here it became very misty and couldn’t see a thing and followed a faint path which i wasnt sure was the right one. Pulled the GPS out to get a bearing and used this with my map and compass to get back on track.
The cloud lifted and I could see clearly An Sgarsoch. Picked up a path and headed straight up to the summit cairn of An Sgarsoch. Stopped for a quick bite to eat. Continued north from the summit and took the path around the Sgarsoch Bheag and back to my bike. Mostly down hill all the way. I had my ipod onall the time. Never walked with an ipod on before. But used it today as i was on my todd and knew it was a long day. Had to download some music for work purposes and I was laughing at the cheesy music I had on it ..step by step.. ‘theres a river and a bridge that ive to cross’.
Back to Geldie Lodge and this time straight across the river without stripping. Back along the track and met one guy out walking.. the first person I met that day. Back to the car and all in 7hours 50 minutes. Had to ring out my socks.. quick change and cuppa and back to glasgow.
