This turned out to be a glorious day walking round the Cairnwell Munros just west of the A93 as it passes through the Ski Centre. A return for me to old stomping/ski-ing grounds and a new adventure for Valerie discovering her feet more and more in the snow. Both of us were kitted up suitably for a winter walk as being close to the Centre and fine weather may not always add up to easy walking.

We left our car at 10.30am and headed off up through the ski runs.

I love how this shot has come out. Last time I was here some 20 years ago it was covered in clag and I had no idea how beautifully the setting of this link route presented itself.

Very icy and slippy up here, and what a strange cairn!
The final hour of the day was very cold and it was amazing how much the snow hardened, plus The Cairnwell was solid ice in parts - we elected to sit and carefully fit our crampons before decending (looking forward now to a promised day out with a good friend who knows all about Winter Skills, cannae wait to freshen up and learn more!)..... :D

3 Munros and only 660m of ascent - could only be Glenshee - I did pretty much the same amount of ascent on Saturday and only got one Corbett for my troubles  But it was a great day to be oot 'n' aboot. Photo 11 perfectly shows the effect of all that wind. People moan about the ski paraphernalia but it doesn't take too much effort to get them out of site and mind and you're left with super views as this excellent report shows - nice one

Great walk guys with some great photos to match. Did the same walk this time last year but not with the weather you had over the weekend. Be safe out there! :D
