Meall nan Subh on the 1st

Today myself and Kim were supposed to be meeting Walkhighland members jstalker & Tomsie to climb Mullach Clach a' Bhlair but when i was out the previous day i picked up a little strain so we had to call off as i didn't think i'd manage a long day on the hills. Mullach Clach a' Bhlair is becoming a bogey hill for me as thats four times i've hoped to climb now and still havn't managed. Both of us were quite disappointed as we hadn't did a Munro for a wee while now and we decided to play the 1st by ear. In the morning we decided to do a quick one as it WAS new years day, thats not a quick one in the morning. The quick one was the Corbett, Meall nan Subh, a short 1km + walk. We didn't start walking till 1pm, how many hills can you start at that time at this time of the year and still be back down before dark? We parked not long after the small Lochan with the drive up from Kenknock farm being full of pot holes and not recommend. I would advise to come in from the north. Once walking we stopped at the crags where we got the shelter out and had some lunch then continued the short walk to the summit. The weather stayed dried if a bit blowy at times, with which we were lucky as on the drive up it was pouring down. This is a fine wee walk taking us 2hrs 15mins with some nice views from the summit. Once back at the car we drove to the Lawers Hotel for our New Years Day dinner.

I have never been up a Corbett and wonder if this would be suitable for my first? Dont really want to travel too far from Edinburgh

Yeah that was due to me going out on the 31st and picking up a wee strain, needed to find a wee short one to keep in Kims good books after promising her a Munro with you guys

Thanks Morag All the Best to you also. The walk was on me the dinner was on Kim, thanks Kimbo As for the walk it would be ideal as a first Corbett due to it being such a short walk and not very steep either, there are no paths that i saw and the ground was a bit boggy. The only stumbling block is getting there as, as i said the road up isn't the best though you could try from the north although it is a bit longer but a very nice drive in the summer.

Not bad - I keep meaning to do this on the way home from a longer walk in Glen Lyon, but never have the energy.

Cheers, yeah big and heavy....not. Thats the winter rucksacks though we did empty them, next time we will just take the one and Kim can carry it

Youre always learning while youre oot on the hills with me johnny I will need to start charging you for my advice!

Useful info JC. Cheers. I have a notion to combine this with the Killin Graham of Creag Gharbh (driving inbetween obviously ) later on this year. What I wasn't sure about was the best way to access the Corbett in the car.
