Forecast was misty at Glencoe so wasn't expecting any views. Pretty quick up & back this one. After the Buachaille Etive Mor layby there's 40mph signs for HGVs, round the bend then layby next to cairn. Good path starts at layby & heads up Lairig Eilde, hill path branches to left after short distance.
Height gained quickly, snow melting on the way up.
Path is icy, grippier snow around the path. Met some guys who had stopped on the way up, it was actually pretty warm compared with last week.
Got to bealach, not much to see in mist.
Straight up Stob Coire Raineach, steep with plenty of false summits. Cairn:
Back down & noticed cairn at bealach.
Then up to ridge, noticed other guys practising self arrests etc. Snow & cloud pretty bright & could feel headache coming on - should have brought sunglasses! Steep climb up start of ridge, then cairn:
Onwards, couldn't see down in cloud/mist so no worries.
Suddenly cleared & got a view, bit of a shock after cosy mist.
Got to summit cairn:
Onwards again:
Was clearing in bits on the way back, so tried to get camera out in time for pics:
Looking back:
Better view of ridge:
Stob Coire Raineach & arty rainbow
View back:
Blue skies at last - Buachaille Etive Mor (I think):
& yet another view back:
Met other guys at start of ridge, finally weather was clearing:
Back down to bealach:
Shortish walk back to car park after this, cracking hill with a lot of features if you don't have time for a 9 hour trek.
