Its definitely steeper than the tourist route but i'd also definitely say it will always be the way i go up when i do it again and probably back down too. It just makes it more exciting and the views of Loch Lomond from that route are outstanding, weather permitting of course, with only a couple of wee scrambles that are excellent fun but easy enough for a newbie like me
