Once again, the prospect of good clear weather had us hitting the Lakes, this time, for a direct ascent of Fairfield via Cofa Pike. Parked at Deepdale Bridge and set off up Deepdale, well wrapped against what was a biting cold. We made good time well in to the dale before Greenhow End came looming into view.
- Greenhow End central, Cofa Pike to the right.
Headed up Mossydale, past the waterfalls, which had, unsurprisingly, frozen.
- Frozen falls.
At the head of Mossydale, Fairfield came better into view.
- Fairfield & Cofa Pike.
From here, it was a straight climb up Sleet Cove to Deepdale Hause. The snow was really soft which did make it a bit more difficult than it should have been, with one step forward and two back at times
At Deepdale Hause, there was a great sight that met us.
- Dollywagon Pike, High Crag, Nethermost Pike & Helvellyn.
To the west was Seat Sandal and Grisedale Tarn.
- Seat Sandal & Grisedale Tarn.
Looking back east is St. Sunday Crag.
- St. Sunday Crag.
As our fingers were getting a bit numb from the now biting wind coming up the hause
we quickly headed over Cofa Pike and onto Fairfield summit.
- Cofa Pike.
There was quite a bit of activity on Fairfield, including fell runners
We had a quick walk around the summit, before trying to find somewhere sheltered for lunch, as the wind had become even colder.
- Down Rydal to Windermere.
A lunch spot was found, though not the most comfortable 10 mins eating i've ever had
before we headed off towards Hart & Dove Crags.
- Hart Crag & Far Eastern Fells.
There was terrific views of the Far Eatern Fells on our way across.
- Too many to name!!!
The usual Ravens were hanging around on Dove Crag summit cairn.
- Raven.
Our next route choice was made easier with loads of cloud rolling over from the west, so we decided to head down to Little Hart Crag via High Bakestones.
- Langdale Pikes to the West.
- Fairfield from Dove Crag.
High Bakestones is home to a massive cairn, which Wainwright describes as "a work of art".
- High Bakestones cairn and Red Screes.
Looking into Dovedale was a bit hazy, but still quite impressive.
- From Little Hart Crag into Dovedale.
It was an easy amble down to High Hartsop Dodd from here, and then a steep, but solid descent down to flat land!!
- High Hartsop Dodd.
From here it's an easy walk past Hartsop Hall and Brothers Water, back to the car.
