Well just the one technicaly

Following our Sunday stroll down the Auch glen to Beinn Mhanach, I would like to start out by saying that I think this hill gets bad press. Sure the fact that Sunday was a good weather day helped, but even so it’s a great walk. The walk in & out up the Auch glen is lovely in spite of the 8 times you ford the river there & 8 back again. Some have railway sleepers & do not come over your boots, others require hop scotch on rocks & a couple a quick sprint, but our feet remained dry throughout (just). 8)
When you reach the base of Mhanach you are then faced with a straight up steep & unrelenting in a Ben More stylee.
We started in sunshine & blue sky with good views of the target ahead, but with great views opening up behind us. Ben Lui looking particularly stunning. As we climbed the steep slopes the weather was changing with clouds building, but Ben Lui still below the cloud. From the summit 360 degrees of great views below the cloud.
As we descended we lost the top of Lui, then Dorain & eventually the top of Mhanach.
Met a guy on the way up & two ladies as we descended. One of them dressed head to toe in Haglofs & talked about needing to wear her nose warmer. Déjà vu or the twilight zone you decide.

Some nice pictures there Jonny :D I agree about the undeserved bad press this hill gets as the walk in is a good stroll. You certainly got better weather than I did though. My memory of Mhanach was clag, wind, in places deep snow and icy cold with none of the great views you enjoyed :( I'll have to return one day :D

Brilliant Jonny, I've been looking forward to this report :D

Fantastic photos all the way, so pleased that you got the best of the weather 8) 8)

As for the woman dressed head to toe in Haglofs....  , I'm so jealous!!!!

Hopefully heading there next again Friday, it will interesting to see how much snow will still be about after this week of super mega hot weather :? :?
Could mean those river crossings might be a bit more lively

Another nice report Jonny. I'm thinking I might squeeze this one in during my Easter hols in April - keen to combine it with the 2 Corbetts on the right side of the glen. That's one way to avoid the river crossings I guess.

Exactly the name of my report on this hill

Some good crisp shots in there

We done it in August and the rain poured incessantly so going was wet ...returning was like wading ....good tight gaiters and quick steps
Made sure I went back on a - 3 day and it was more a skating over the burns and rivers

Cheers for posting

Some nice foto`s in your report Johny.
I was the guy making my way back down as you , Mille & your 2 mates were on the final pull up - my dog Oskar was a wee bit interested in Millie :)
I like you , thoroughly enjoyed the walk in very fair winter conditions. I chatted to the 2 ladies who were quite a wee bit behind you guys ,1 of the them is a membere here on WH , but i can`t recall her name , although she came from Grangemouth.
I`ve stuck on a foto of Oskar on top of the cairn in the cold wind, i was glad to get back down out of it for a warm cuppa.

Good press for Beinn Mhanach from you Johnny! I like the hill, and the way you enter an emptier Scotland beyond the beautiful railway viaduct. The bad press comes from people who combine it with the other four Munros, I guess. In that case it, by comparison, is the uninteresting hill. Advice: save it for winter.
I did this last March, but from the northern (Achaladair-) col.
