One from the end of last year. Not too much to report really. Off before 9am & back before 1pm. All the snow this way had gone, which was a shame. Weather was pretty good - a bit hazy and fairly nippy in the wind. The route was on good quality tracks apart from a km each side of the summit. Apart from being a good leg stretch prior to Xmas the most notable thing for me was that I beat the Naismith time for this walk. I don't usually pay any attention to his timings but on this occasion the combination of good tracks and not much in the way of photo taking meant I didn't hang around that much.

Towards Glen Esk




ʎ Grouse butts on the Hill of Turret just off Glen Esk. I don't think I've come across a more well stocked estate in the three years I've been hill walking. There were grouse everywhere as well as three sets of substantial butts and some very well maintained tracks. Come the spring I'll be returning on my MTB

lovely stuff Alastair - really brought back good memories for me (of a day when it threatened to rain on me throughout but never did) I contemplated going via Clachnaben but two guys walking out there told me it was hag heaven and boggy as a boggy thing

I'll probably get round to that route too. But by the look of it and from what I've heard its a bit of a bog-fest between the two. One for a good long cold snap methinks

Alastair, your photos are excellent - if you don't mind a bit of gentle criticism the adjustment to saturation/contrast is a little overdone for my tastes, especially that 2nd from last pic

I make some adjustments to my own, a lot of us probably do, but I try to stop before it loses the natural look and becomes noticable
