After reading GLW report on this walk it brought back memories of a camping trip i had at Derry Lodge a few years and as i hadn't been back since i felt the need to return. With the forecast looking good over on the east on Sunday i decided that would be the day. I set off from Linn of Dee at 08.40 on foot :( , i say on foot because on my last visit i promised myself when i returned it would by bike but as i'd recently changed my car i hadn't got any bike racks on it yet. Most of the walkers i saw that day had cycled in, with one running and another in a Landrover although he was not a walker. He stopped to chat and informed me he was heading to inspect reports they had recieved of an avalanche at The Devils Point. He was away by the time i got back so didn't have the chance to ask him what the outcome was. Back to the walk now and it's a straightforward walk with a path taking you all the way to the summit. The forecast was as predicted with superb views from the summit although the Munros to the west of the Lairig Ghru had a wee bit cloud on them. On the summit of Carn a' Mhaim it was very calm which was suprising as it had been windy at times on the way up, so i took some photos and sat about for a bit enjoying the views. Normally i would have had lunch but it was a bit early yet so i headed back down the way i came stopping off for lunch at Glen Luibeg then making the long walk back to the car. Another great day out in the Cairngorms with the only downside 1 blister on 1 heel and one big blister on the sole of my other foot, not sure how i got them as i'd worn the boots on many occasions. I've put it down to the combination of the socks and boots together as i'm unsure if i'd worn the socks and boots before or possibly it was just walking on the track for so long. Next time it WILL be by bike. :D

Nice one JC :D It was great weather you had there :D I was in the same parts on Sunday and the cloud seemed to increase a fair bit as the afternoon wore on. And in some places pretty windy too. You certainly had the best of it and some great pictures there too :D

I'm with you on the bike front. Bad luck on the blisters :( I've done that walk in from Linn of Dee a number of times now, and each time my feet are killing me by the time I make it back to the car :o

Excellent report JC with beautiful Scottish scenes all around, looks like the snow is almost gone there (it is Springtime now I suppose...well it is for us, another week for you guys though) I was interested in the blister thing, I found that when I walked long distances on hard tracks I would get a couple even when in my favourite boots, maybe something to do with the hard road :( but those compeed blister plasters meant I didn't even notice and could get out again immediately, have to say those things are unbelievable - I've tried a lot of others but they really do eliminate any pain at all. I actually took to using them when breaking in new boots  :D

Thanks Morag i think Spring has arrived early :D

Gammy , i await a certain Gaelic speaking members response to the TR title

Chris i think you may be right, a combination of hard ground and hard winter boots. Kim also swears by the compede, i think i'm going to have to give it a go if i'm going to get out again this week as it's back to work on Thursday :(

Oh such lovely pics.. thoroughly envious..

The walk from Linn o Dee isnie too bad.. only 3/4 of an hour really.. although always seems to take longer on the way back

I did this last year.. had a sore foot though and the pain was blinding for most of the walk so never enjoyed it much.. you have made me want to return and do it again.. soon! It wasnt until the day after I decided that my foot was sore enough to head to A&E where I found out it was broken. :o I had done it on Ben Avon the week before, but it didnt seem that bad at the time.. just goes to show

Thanks Basscadet, using a bike just saves the wear and tear on the auld feet :D

Quoman, definitely use a bike it's a level track so there won't be much effort used and save the legs for the hills. There's loads to choose from ones you get to Derry Lodge, all of them superb :D
