Ingleborough & Simons Fell from Clapham

Couldn't sleep again so on a dull looking Monday morning Headed off to Clapham about thirty five minutes from my house. Surprisingly when I got there the cloud had lifted leaving me with a sunny day to tackle Ingleborough and Simons Fell. Here Is my route and a few photos.

Yes It turned out to be a great day, the big hole is Gaping gill a very famous part of yorkshire nearly three hundred feet deep !

Some cracking photo's Chris....really liked the ones of the limestone pavements and Gaping Ghyll...last time I saw it like that I was about to abseil down it....or was I heading off to Disapointment Pot or Bar Pot...can't quite remember but.....that was a long time ago!!

Also made me realise what I was missing as I hoped to be spending some time in the dales earlier this week but work has meant that I had to cancel the planned trip...but hope to rectify that soon!

Glad you like the pictures, if you like limestone landscapes take a look at my pen y ghent report. I've never been down gaping gill but i,m thinking of doing it in august when the pot hole circus comes to town.

NIce pictures. I did the three peaks the same day and even got a little sun burnt. Never seen Whernside without cloud before

Well done, I didn't see another person for the full walk, but I did set off before seven as I had work at two

What good weather you had. Always a good feeling to set off in mist only for the weather to brighten up, it sort of justifies the decision to take the chance. It's a great walk and far superior to the straight up and down from Ingleton that many opt for. I went last year from Horton, cutting across to Crummack and Trow Gill to show my son Gaping Gill before ending up on Ingleborough.Simon fell doesn't have a lot going for it although the view to Ribblesdale is excellent. Still, it's a Hewitt so it has to be done by those of us who tick off lists.
