Set out at 7am to beat the heat of the day. Even at the time the temperature was already beginning to soar.

Ben Vorlich itself was a straight forward but very scenic walk up a hill. Looking back as the morning mist was easing I was able to see Ben Lawers for the first time. I have climbed BL before but this was the first time the weather was nice enough to actually see it!

I reasched the summit in about 80 mins and stopped for a quick chat with a fellower summiter before moving on to Stuc a Chroin. This was my first experience of scrambling and, whilst a simple scramble for most, it met with my full concentration. Such an enjoyable experience though.

I then learned a very important lesson. Always check the map before descending! I went with the visual and left myself a mammoth hike back to the car. Think I could probably have shaved about an hour off the trip if not for that.

All in all a great day. I just wish my knees would stop hurting everytime I descend!

Some might call it smart.

My theory is if I can get up before my wife wakes up then she cant take back the permission slip I had to work so hard to get in order to go walking.

A great couple of hills with fantastic scenery :-)
