Opted for a shorter walk nearer home in view of the uncertain weather, the Corbetts Meall nam Maigheach and Beinn nan Oighreag, with Ian and Jake the dug.

Rain and drizzle all the way up to Lix Toll, it did not look good but the cloud broke and it stopped raining as passing through Killin. Met Ian and Jake at the cairn at the end of Lairig an Lochan above the Lairige reservoir, boots on and off up Maigheach over Meall nam Eun at 08.30. Found where most of the water that had fallen over the last couple of days was residing - in the peat hags and moss banks. That set the tone for the day, no paths but plenty of wet soft ground.

Made the top of Meall nam Maigheach and to Meall Luaidhe crags in 50 mins as the clouds descended and blanked out a promising view of Glen Lyon.

Back tracked and dropped SW off the hill to the road, quite a steep descent. Walked down the road as far as the confluence of the Allt Baile a'Mhuillinn and Allt Breisleich where there is a foot bridge to cross the river, handy as it was in spate.

Started to climb Creag Dhubh following the line of a stream and picked up a faint track made by a quad bike which lead up the 700m spot. Carried on up over the 899m, 909m spots along the ridge in the cloud and down to the 878m rocks, where we stopped for lunch, in 3hrs 50mins. Wind and light drizzle made us drop off the hill following the Allt Choire an t-Seilich and into the choire of the same name.

The route out took us over Bealach na Cuinneig and into Airigh a'Choire Ghlas, climbing to the bealach we disturbed a large herd of deer 100+ which took off along the ridge to Meall Ghlas.

Back to the cars and off to the Coach House in Killin for a well deserved beer.

Hi Frigate,

That looks like a smashing walk you had. Great idea going for a shorter walk ( not that short!!!) when the weather is as wet as this!!!

What were the falls like at Killin? A raging torrent??

Some miserable looking weather but a great route choice for these two :) . I was looking at a similar route to link them up, as I don't want to just walk up and down Meall nam Maigheach the same way.

Thanks Polly,
Yes a good walk, the usual quiet of the glens was alive with the sound of water roaring. The Falls of Dochart were rather full, water all the way up to the road wall, still had people climbing down to the rocks for photos.
I think I was being a little ironic to myself over the length of the walk but I did select it (looked shorter on the map).

Malky
A good few climbs of varying steepness in that area to make up the difficulty, particularly liked the look of following one of the ridges up to Tarmachan, that would make a good winter walk.
Must say I like your reports from around Salop, I'm familiar with that area as my son trained at RAF Shawbury and my daughter worked in Telford for a couple of years (she lived in Church Aston)
