In the Summer of 1645 the Lawyers country of Clann Diarmid was under the heel of Alasdair Mac Colla Chiotaich. It was this man, the last great Gaelic Catholic General and not Montrose who cleared the field in four major battles against the Covenanters during the Civil Wars of 1644-45.

The children of Diarmid knew him as " Fear Tollaidh nan Tighean"...... the destroyer of houses.

It is likely Alasdair's men burnt the" Castle" of Lawyers, home to the legendary " Ban-tighearona Larbhuir" or " Lady of Lawyers, situated on the shores of Loch Taobha in the shadow of Meall Greigh or the hill of the horse studs.

We set off around 10am along the road and i was glad to be off it once we reached the horn carvers place

An slighe suas bha caol ..the track is narrow onto the flank of Meall Greigh then at the sheiling pastures the vista opens up......

Meall Greigh was to produce no views for us however the cloud base was starting to break up as we approached Meall Garbh :D

Agus an Ban tigh eorna Labhuir .... and the Lady of Lawyers ?

The Lady foretold a time when the district would first be riddled, and then sifted of its people. This prophecy is understood to predict the evictions that took place on Lochtayside during the early years of the second Marquis, who allowed his factor to clear the people off the land and to form large sheep-runs. By 1838, fourteen families had been removed forcibly from Rhynachuilig, twelve from Edramchie, thirteen from Kiltyrie, nine from Cloichran, and nineteen from the farm of Acharn, all places lying at the west end of Loch Tay.

nice walk that, An Stuc peps it up a bit too and a pint in the Lawers hotel is always a good finish. Good to get some historical facts thrown in and a wee reminder that the Highlands weren't always empty but were full of communities

21st July, Collaciotach? The trip report says it's that date, but I suspect that it was actually before that? Why would I want to know that, you may ask?! The wee patch of sneachda on An Stuc suggests that it was actually walked maybe a couple of weeks ago? I hope I'm wrong...
