In the Summer of 1645 the Lawyers country of Clann Diarmid was under the heel of Alasdair Mac Colla Chiotaich. It was this man, the last great Gaelic Catholic General and not Montrose who cleared the field in four major battles against the Covenanters during the Civil Wars of 1644-45.
The children of Diarmid knew him as " Fear Tollaidh nan Tighean"...... the destroyer of houses.
It is likely Alasdair's men burnt the" Castle" of Lawyers, home to the legendary " Ban-tighearona Larbhuir" or " Lady of Lawyers, situated on the shores of Loch Taobha in the shadow of Meall Greigh or the hill of the horse studs.

We set off around 10am along the road and i was glad to be off it once we reached the horn carvers place

..we spent an hour on the summit before we dropped down into coire nan cat

The Lady foretold a time when the district would first be riddled,and then sifted of its people.This prophecy is understood to predict the evictions that took place on Lochtayside during the early years of the second Marquis, who allowed his factor to clear the people off the land and to form large sheep-runs. By 1838, fourteen families had been removed forcibly from Rhynachuilig, twelve from Edramchie, thirteen from Kiltyrie, nine from Cloichran, and nineteen from the farm of Acharn, all places lying at the west end of Loch Tay.
