Spidean Coire nan Clach (Beinn Eighe)

This was to be my 1st Solo for a while, having just completed my SML training, my confidence has been knocked, to the ULTRA Cautious!! Was only going for a look, but was told "...dont go look, go do"! So I did!

Got parked in the small car park, room for possibly eight considerately parked cars.

Troika and I set off on what was a fair Saturday, cloud on top, but confident (MWIS) that it would lift by the time I got up there!

The path, although relentless, was easy to follow, and no real navigation required, although I did keep eye on the map "as one must know where one is, at all times"

Soon mighty Liateach was looming at us, big and reminding me of a horrendous descent in February (shudder!)

The views towards Loch Maree, were beautiful, absolutely stunning, never ceases to amaze me the raw emotion I feel when I look up Loch Maree....

We reached the trip point (don't be fooled, this isn't the top!) trip points are excellent for the self timer on the camera, almost guaranteed a "level" photo! As we looked across to the real top, I was a bit unsure of the scramble ahead, but when I saw a couple approaching in the distance, I reckoned I'd be safe enough if I fell of the edge! And I was really chuffed with myself for making the effort to go to the top! The scramble wasnt difficult, up nor down!. And we returned to the trig point for lunch, which time the wind was getting up, Pastrami & Leerdamer sarnies.....yummy!

At this point I was tempted to carry on and do the other Munro top, however, decided to not be greedy, it will keep for another day, also, I didnt fancy the road walk back to the car!

Yeah Boy, we went all the Way!!

On the way down, met a few people, all very chatty, from the couple having a wee practise before going walking in Greenland, to the elderly gent off to look for the crashed plane (I need to google that one!), then there was the young lad from Poland who loves walking in Scotland!

Troika had fun chasing the multitude of frogs, if I had been quick with my camera I could have got an excellent shot of the mutual spitting out and the frog leaping from his jaw.... :wink

Good on you, FCF, great report. Why ultra cautious? You can still do all the things you could do before you did the ML training..... My memory of this hill involves lots of wind & rain, and lots of pain because I had done the round of Coire Lair the day before! (so I haven't done the main summit of Eighe either).

And Troika should have known that frogs taste bad.

Yeah, it's one of the finest bodies of water in the country IMHO!

Beinn Eighe has become quite popular lately, lots of TR's on this mountain - that makes me happy!

I must admit I have never done any serious climbing solo. I wonder how I would manage, but honestly I don't think I'll be as happy on the hills without my second half

I have descended this side of Beinn Eighe twice but never climbed up that path, it's much steeper then the approach through Corrie Mhic Fearchair and I always preferred ascending via the infamous stone chute. I remember once there was a discussion on the forum, which way up Beinn Eighe is better and votes were split more or less equally.

As for frogs, I tried frog legs once when I lived in France and I can confirm they taste bad

Nice one, heading up that way in a week or so and plan to do this walk
