It was time to do the Aonach Eagach , reports read , books studied , Muriel Gray watched on Youtube.
The weather forecast was fine for the morning so I arranged to meet Pigeon in Glencoe village at 7 am , I turned up half an hour early and he was already there so we sorted out cars and drove up the Glen to the start . Nice views from the ascent of Am Bodach , we made good time and were soon on the summit enjoying the sunshine .

I was definitely a bit nervous at this stage but we got started on the downclimb and I was soon concentrating too hard to think about anything else , plenty of exposure here and fairly polished but a bit of care and we got down without any trouble .

The next section to Meall Dearg was straightforward enough , a few ups and downs and we reached the Munro summit

After a wee sit down and a bite to eat at the cairn we wandered over to survey what was in store for us , an amazing and frightening looking section of ridge .

At this stage my nerves had disappeared and I was really enjoying myself , once you get your hands and feet on good solid rock it didn't seem too exposed , brilliant fun !

2012_0804test0027.JPG
At one stage we had a look down a bypass path but it was very loose and steep, crossing a sheer gully so we climbed back to the crest of the ridge and stuck to it for the duration , feeling far safer on the clean solid rock .

Eventually we reached the end of the pinnacles and started the ascent of Stob Coire Leith, turning round to look at the ridge it is hard to pick out your route , did we just cross that ?
2012_0804test0048.JPG
The route onwards is plain sailing , before long we reached Sgorr nam Fiannaidh , the second Munro ,and a well earned sit down .

From the second Munro we decided to nip over and visit the Pap of Glencoe , gorgeous views from here , a lovely way to finish the day.

A wonderful day , not as hard as I thought it would be ,although a good head for heights and an awful lot of care is needed :D

Cheers GLW , had a look down that scree descent , looked tough going . ( Good luck next week !) :D

Aye Bod , a great feeling completing this , looking forward to some less jaggy stuff in Braemar !

Soapy , it's worth waiting for a dry and calm day for this , I certainly wouldn't fancy doing this on wet rock . Enjoy :D

Thanks for letting me tag along Gavin  It was a brilliant hike, like you i didn't find this to bad once we were down from Am Bodach, think the best advice for others is to be patient and wait for a good day as this would be a totally different challenge in the wet :( Also having someone else with you is a great help, take your time and more or less go over the top of everything as some of the by pass paths looked none to clever  Looking forward to the next one Gavin, cheers again

Each time I've seen a report from AE I've thought "I'll never do that". Until now; why am I sitting here thinking "I could do that!". Maybe someday with a patient person who has done it before. OMG have I gone mad???

This was yesterday Saturday 4th August 2012 yeah? You really got the weather, as we were down at Ben Oss/Beinn Dubhchraig and got royally soaked for an hour.

Great set of pics, when we did it we holstered the cameras as it took all our concentration to go the ridge.

Finally, you are dead right about sticking with the rock rather than trying those "road to nowhere" bypass paths!

Well you've come to the right place then

Ceaser , whether you enjoyed it or not I bet you won't forget it in a hurry!

Thanks Lenore 8)

Cheers Jonny , and good luck with the big one next week

Cheers JW , we started early and were over the pinnacles by mid morning but we were watching the thunderclouds building as the day went on . It looks like they caught up with you in style !
And yes , those bypass paths do look pretty lethal
