Given the forecast for the weekend, I thought we would be getting a rest........but oh no, Kyle and his sister, Megan wanted to climb a mountain!
So we decided to go for Lomond as it is a solitary Munro! I told them the weather was going to be awful, but it did not deter them! In fact Kyle said it would make it a “real adventure”!
So Saturday morning arrived and they were still up for it, Kyle played his game of football first and then we drove to Lomond, we left the car at ten past two and was back at the car by five to seven.
- Sunny start, smiles all round!
Some speed for wee legs! Mine are still aching today as I am writing this! We had parked at the visitor car park which was very busy; luckily someone gave me a ticket so we got free parking, GREAT!
Once on the hill we soon gained height and passed a lot of people coming down (some very strange people, very under prepared people as well)!
- Storm clouds brewing!
- The last glimpse of sunshine!
We met a hill runner heading up, Kyle tried to keep up with him for a while, this boy is mad, I am sure he is part mountain goat!
We could see the weather rolling in and before too long it had gone from T-shirts to full waterproofs, woolly hats and gloves!
- Brother and sister arguments about our location!LOL. Kept me amused!
- On with the warm & waterproof gear!
The good news is that the more gear the kid’s wear, the lighter dad’s rucksack gets!
By the time we were approaching the summit, we had the mountain to ourselves (funny that), a lot of people behind us had turned back! Not us, my “hard-core” kids pushed on through gales, rain, hail and zero visibility! I and Marley (the dug) would have quite happily turned back!
- Megan's 2nd Munro, Kyle's 18th Munro!
Reaching the summit, we were soaked and Megan had cold hands (a quick change of gloves and she was sorted)!
- Family summit photo!
Some quick photos and then down we went! Arriving back at the car, we got changed and headed for McD’s, all in all another epic adventure in the hills! Very proud of them both, especially Megan for pushing on through the grim weather!
It’s all good experience, until the next time, enjoy!
