I picked up my friend from Aberdeen on the way and left the Linn of Dee just before 9.30. We met a lot of cyclists heading up to Derry Lodge on the way and with the westerly winds, I can imagine it must have been good coming back at the end of the day to be blown back along the track. Instead, we had the long walk in and out, but with the fine weather it was good to be out for that bit longer.

The track which branches off from Glen Derry to climb Beinn Bhreac was a bit boggy to start with but the going soon improved. As we headed towards the summit, there was an eagle circling which flushed out some grouse from the heather. It was pretty windy at the top so we didn’t stay too long.

I was expecting it to be boggy between the two summits but the going was good with very few soggy patches and it wasn’t too breezy until we reached the top of Beinn a’Chaorainn.

After our lunch at the top we headed back down to Glen Derry and there were some good views of the Hutchison Memorial hut in the corrie.

The walk back through the glen was a great way to end the day.

You chose the better day to climb these as i was up them the following day in not so good weather. Sounds like you picked a better route over the boggy section to us also. :)
