It had been a couple of months since Timber and I had been out on a decent walk, so we decided to head down to Tinto to get the old legs and lungs back in action again, we arrived at the car park at 8:30 and set off at 8:45, very cold as we set off and the higher we got the strong wind certainly added to chill factor. From the top there were fine views in all directions, the Southern Uplands and many of the high hills around the area were white with a good scattering of snow, long may it continue as we plan to do our winter walking down here. We did not stay on the top to long as even in the sheltered area that freezing wind still managed to get at us so we made our way back down to the car park for 11:00. Althought certainly not one of the most demanding hill walks it was good to be out again and getting back into it.

Great wee hill and is so accessible. Although it's only 460m ascent, taking you into the 700m+ height in Winter is a chilly experience.

Is there a new track right up to the top now ? I drove past a few weeks ago and thought i saw an almighty scar on the landscape going up the side of the hill.

cheers

The 'new' track has been there a good few years now. It is a more direct straight track rather than the path on the side of the corrie which is now pretty badly worn away. Guess they thought it was getting a wee bit dangerous for the tourists.
