A return to Loch Earn for me, repeating Ben Vorlich but this time adding Stuc a'Chroin, and a chance for Louise and I to get more practical navigation experience; lessons from our Ben Macdui trip very much in mind   Thought about alternate routes as per much appreciated advice on my last Ben Vorlich report, but in the end we followed the trade route as per WH. Still only saw 2 people all day! They were running off the hill as we started going up.

Winds were higher than forecast, tops stayed in cloud and it rained most of the day - until we were coming back down when it became dry and bright (clouds did go back over the tops though). Made use of GPS to check co-ordinates, read the map and used the compass... and we did it! No errors or wrong turns, enjoyed the climb up Stuc (reported to be a 'tricky scramble') and found even in the pouring rain it wasn't anything to be worried about. Very pleased with ourselves :D :D

Well done with this pair of hills in such foul weather  - that Stuc is a tad steep from this side. I just did these two on a (rare) lovely day last week - I don't know that I'd have tackled them in weather like this; all credit to you for giving it a go :D !

Great stuff! That's the way to do it! :D :D
Good map and compass work is always fun, and grid reference checking too. I like to work out the reference first and then see if the technology agrees?

Great stuff Fi. I once climbed Vorlic twice in one day due to dodgy navigation. Love the pics of Stuc.

A great couple of Munros, FI. I'm glad you enjoyed the scramble up Stuc, I agree it's not too bad.

In August 2011, I did the same route with both summits in the mist, then saw them clear on the way down just as you did (nice shot of Stuc's prow, by the way). Did you manage to get down the scree path without bringing half the scree down with you? I f so you did better than me

Me too! GPS is just for peace of mind.. might cause total confusion if I ever find it doesn't agree with where I think I am

Thanks Jonny, at least you made a start on your second round

I have also done this one twice as my first munro and my 10 yr old sons first munro also last mnth........ have to say mist hangs over her regularly but both occasions i was rather fortunate to have breaks appear at the summit on both occasions......nice to see your still out and about :)

Great effort on a pretty miserable day Fi, sickening when the damn hills clear as you look back at them  but still a wonderful day in the wilds of Scotland :D
