Hill Phone service

Hill Phone service

Just wanted to give a shout for the excellent Hill Phone service at http://www.snh.org.uk/hillphones/

I've not used this system before (which lets you know where and when deer stalking is taking place on all the major estates) as I've preferred to just take my chances. However in the new spirit of the access legislation I thought I would try it and found it really easy to use - you just phone for an ansaphone message - and there wasn't a long list of restrictions for the estates I was visiting so it was reassuring. I could then do my walk knowing that I wasn't going to fall foul of any stalkers. Would definately recommend using it.

There is a page about access on the walkhighlands site which also has a link to the Hill Phone service http://www.walkhighlands.co.uk/info/Info/AccessInScotland

You can also pick up the small green and brown leaflet about the Hill Phone service. This is useful to carry with you as it has all the phone numbers for the different estates. The leaflet is updated each year and can be found in tourist info centres, shops, hostels etc.

Deer stalking season finishes on 20 October this year.

Enjoy the hills!
