Search on Ben Donich (Rest and be Thankful)

Search on Ben Donich (Rest and be Thankful)

Postby electricfly » Thu Dec 27, 2012 7:17 pm

Hi guys, this is a thread I have been dreading to ever have to start. I'm appealing to anyone available tomorrow (Fri 28th Dec) to help me with a search on Ben Donich.

Earlier today I lost one of my springer spaniels on the hill. She was there one minute and while I was getting out my axe for the push to the summit she had vanished. I spent some time calling and searching the area but was forced off the hill due to failing light and snow moving in.

I'm pretty sure the chances are she has fallen into one of the deep cavities and may be unhurt but unable to climb out. For that reason I have to resume my search again in tomorrows light.

Because of the terrain I need to search, it would be better advised for me to have extra parties to assist. Anyone with rope experience would be an added bonus, but even if any hillwalkers would like to come and lend a hand searching the route that would be greatly appreciated.

I understand that everyone is busy with xmas and all, but if you think you could be of assistance please reply to the thread. Many thanks.

EF :(

Mate that's heartbreaking. I tried to change something around to come and help but have not been able to. It may be no good to you but I should be able to go over on Saturday if the search continues to a second day. (I hope there's no need for this) Good luck for tomorrow, I really hope there is some good news.

Sorry to hear that.

I have no rope skills but will drive up there and search route and general area. Confident can arrange cover at work and get up there as early as possible.

That would be fantastic Andy. I could meet you at the old Little Chef on Dumbarton Rd and drive if thats easier?

Don't worry about the rope skills, I just need someone to belay me if necessary. Not planning on putting anyone at risk.

will message you my number.

Electricfly seen yr pics on the Mutts on Munros post, great, I have two Springers and lost one of mine for 4 days last year so I know exactly how you feel.
I'm in Inverness but I'll set off to be down for around 0900 hrs tomorrow. I'll PM my contact details just in case you get any good news to avoid unecessary travel.
I found mine and also found smeone elses, so heres hoping my luck may still be there.
I'll recheck yr post for details of exactly where and/or if you can provide them here would be great.

If u can PM back yr contact details too, do u want to meet up first ?

I have rope skills so will bring a 50' rope length and some hardware

That would be brilliant Spider.

The area between Coire Culach and the NE summit approach is where I need to focus on, so I may need dropped into some of the slots to check.

9am(ish) at the WH route start point would be excellent, thankyou.
