Benaquhallie ah nice easy 1 hour stroll from upper dagie or newbigging. well aye but i thought i would try and make it a bit more interesting and try it from Corrennie forest and wander over green hill red hill and on to Benaquhallie.

Mind you i niver thought it wid turn in tae a 4 hour slog.

I will not recommend this route better off taking the short route and bag it along with craiglich.

Forest track leading up through corrennie forest. i was just pitin on ma gaiters when a 4x4 arrived we some crazy hounds barking and trying to knock out the window and probably rip my throat out so i fairly sped up and was legging it up the track fearing the hounds would soon be on ma trail but mibee the hounds owner held em back a while or they settled doon after i legged it.

Leaving the main forest track and heading up green hill the track is not to bad.

Looking back down the track there is also a old track to the north of red hill which i missed on the way over. had i followed the track up the edge of the forest on the way over it would have taken me round in stead ah plodding through mare heather aarrrggggg.

View looking over Bennachie and Cairn william.
SAM_0304 (1024x565).jpg
No access.thought i would try a different route on the way back big mistake.
Although no specialist winter equipment is required for this walk a timber axe and saw would certainly help.
SAM_0305 (1024x576).jpg
A wee bit better going.

Good to see another route up this hill.
I took the easy option, heather-bashing up from Upper Dagie and back to the car in 40 minutes.

Ha ha i wish i had is well.
No it was okay really we the gaiters on and it saves going near farms and moaning farmers. but i ended up going back up the same road yesterday to bag Craiglich using the heritage trail so i guess it would make more sense to do both on the same day with the shorter route.

Nice pics and looks like a good hill day out. I've not heard of it but it looks fairly nearby (I live in Inverurie). Will check this one out and give it a try :)

Do you have a map for this? We've wanted to do this hill for a while, but the only way we know is from the B9119. This looks quite nice.

Heather / Rick
if you have the landranger map for strathdon and afford 37 you will see the route i took. the forest entrance i parked at is Grid NJ 6408 room for a few cars.drive along the B993 between the B9119 and A944 and look out for sign post with Baudygaun,Tolmauds, ennets and turn off and follow the road for a mile or so and you will see the entrance.
there is also a track up the forest between red hill and green hill you could consider from the A944 you will see what i mean if you have the map. i come on to the track after crashing through the fallen trees.

Hi Ben, tried this route just after New Year and also ended up crashing and swearing through the forest! Next tim going to try from the minotrnroad by Ewens Croft, then via the stone circle on Green Hill, thenRed Hill and on to Benaquhallie. Descent via the "usual"route. The recent heavy snow might even make the heather bashing easier!

Kind regards

Ian

Could be a great place for wandering Ian with a we bit oh path construction and a few cairns. if i had more time i would have done white hill as well but the jungle and heather took its toll. may try it from near the tillyfourie turn off next time.
