Carn na Loine

Got myself out today for another local sub Carn na Loine. Looking at the previous report by Malky I planned to take the same route to the summit and possibly copy his descent down for a short walk. However I did plan out a longer route I was prepared to try and I'm sure glad I did. With the weather being so great I took the 10 mile trek and had a great day.

There's a nice grassy lay-by at the start point of the walk, good enough size for 3 cars. The walk starts of on a 4x4 track across moorland towards Huntly's Cave.

The path was easy going at a steady incline, I was making good progress at full steam ahead. So much so I ended up going beyond Huntly's Cave I missed it haha! Never mind its a good excuse to make another visit.

I reached the point where I needed to come of the track and head east over the heather. The vegetation surprisingly wasn't too bad for walking through although I found the distance to walk in it tiring. However tracking down the highest point I reached the summit.

After spending about 15 minutes at the summit I decided to go for the longer circuit round. I marched on to hunt down the 4x4 track south easterly towards the summit of Carn an Fhradhairc. Picking it up fairly quickly I followed the route round towards the east bringing good views of Ben Rinnes and the Hills of Cromdale.

The track was good walking terrain, other than some descents and inclines near the small dam it was easy walking. Eventually I made my way round and started dropping back down into farmland on the west side of the route. I returned to the car after 3 and a half hours which was quicker than I expected.

I really enjoyed today, the longer route round made an unfashionable sub a walk worth doing. The heather section was the most awkward part of the walk however that was forgotten once at the summit. Can't forget the weather which also made the day superb too.
