The plan had been to hit the Grey Corries today but work had taken it's toll with some long days and yours truly slept through all alarms and bashing off the door undisturbed... So by the time I awoke there wasn't long enough in the day given travel time so a shorter walk was called for... No matter, I was itching to get out and leave some of the stress of work behind and Scraggles has plenty left, so helping his cause meant a short walk in Glencoe taking in two munros would add to his tally and provide a good loosener and hill time for me...
- Scraggles on his first ascent of the year...
The weather was gorgeous, and a good staircase ascends to the beallach between Stob Dubh and Stob Coire Raineach...
- Looking toward Bidean nam Bian
We decided to tackle Stob Coire Raineach first leaving the more appealing ridge of Stob Dubh to finish the walk... It's a short ascent from the beallach and in no time we were at the summit...
- Scraggles on the summit of Stob Coire Raineach
Gorgeous views in all directions; let the healing begin...
- Summit views...
- More summit views...
- View toward the Aonach Eagach
The ridge along to Stob Dubh is simple and broad but totally gorgeous if short, with stunning views in all directions...
- Walking along the ridge to Stob Dubh
It's only a short pull to the summit, and we take our time taking in the views... Just a gorgeous day...
- Continuing up the ridge...
- View back along the ridge
Scraggles cuts some shapes taking in a different perspective with the main hills of Glencoe dominating in the background...
- Taking in a different perspective...
We spend a long time at the summit just absorbing the views... There's not a breath of wind and it's not too cold...
- More stunning views...
We make short work of the descent having added crampons for a bit more security on the descent in the hard packed snow which is firm underfoot...
- Looking back at Sob Coire Raineach on the descent
And then it's off to the Chlachaig for some refreshments before travelling up to Fort William; our base for the night...
- And in keeping with tradition, off to the pub...
- ...For beer & chips...
A short walk today but a gorgeous one... Can't be many places you can climb two munros in 8km and still feel a healthy sense of the wilderness!!
- The stats; short walk today...
And the Route...
