Anyone else think that jmarkb's photo looks like the real-life walkhighlands logo?

Hey Rick and other photography folks,
I have noticed over the last few months that when I upload my shots to the photo competition forum the quality becomes terrible. Once loaded to the competition thread my shots look really soft and slightly out of focus, where as the folks who are linking over from Flickr etc dont seem to suffer from the issue.
Anyone know of a fix for this without the need to link form a 3rd party site?
Cheers,
Fraz

Fraz , if your photos are large you are best resizing to the maximum that walkhighlands allows (700 pixels wide). If you dont the forum software will reduce the size of your photo for you (badly). If however you reduce the size of your photo yourself and you use decent software to do it you shouldn't get a loss in quality .
If you dont have photoshop microsoft office picture manager would work (assuming you have microsoft office). If you dont have either im out of ideas

Just to expand a little of xpfloyds comments the exact size you want for pics to upload is a max of 690pixels wide and 640pixels high. The picture will then be left as is.

I had a nice photo all ready for this month's comp, but after seeing the entries so far I'm wondering what's the point? I cant possibly compete with Buchaille Etive Mor. Still, I suppose someone has to make up the ground troops

I thought Alastair's shot would walk it last month but it ended up nowhere. You just don't know how people will vote.

Thanks for the tips folks,
I reloaded at 650 pixels wide and what a difference - The quality, resolotion and colours were much better.
Obviously this site destroys the image quality when it re-sizes things as I originally uploaded everything at around 700-800 pixels wide.
Im still learning all the tricks of the trade.
Best of luck to everyone this month. Looks like some tough competition already!

Joonifer's photo is not loading for me. Anyone else got that problem?

Glad you got it sorted mate. I notice the same thing happens if I upload directly to Facebook.
Morag , like johnkaysleftleg says the voting is never predictable . Last year my favourite entry of the 12 I entered during the year got zero votes and my least favourite won one month

Johnkaysleftleg / Xpfloyd - thanks for your comments guys but I know when I'm beaten, none of my photos even come close to those already entered so i am just going to withdraw
Good luck everyone and I will still vote, just to keep you all on your toes
Outstanding selection so far, each and every one
