Braemar Snow Gate 2013-03-10

Braemar Snow Gate 2013-03-10

Postby Alastair S » Mon Mar 11, 2013 10:44 am

I'm a software engineer by trade and my latest lunch time project has been to write a little app that captures images from a webcam and automatically makes them into a movie - all the joys of creating a time lapse movie without the need to actually move from my desk!

Anyway this is the Braemar snow gate - a webcam I often look at to check the snow conditions before I head out into the hills. This webcam is perched atop the 30 mph sign on the northern side of the village. This vid is made up of images from 7:20am to 8:00pm, captured at 1 frame per minute and replayed at 20 frames per second.

Loved that!! I watch this webcam a lot too. Like seeing peoples reactions when the gates are closed.

Thanks folks :)

Yes, got my eyes on several possibilities including those. Once all done it will be just a case of changing a couple of lines in a config file and off you go.

Brilliant! I'd love to have seen the gates closing! I stayed in the caravan site a couple of weeks ago and spotted the camera on the sign.

That's brilliant.

I must be really sad as I want to see the next one to find out what happens next.
Does the plough come through? How deep does the snow get? Anybody try and get through?
We need to know!

Can I go all nerdy for a minute and ask what set up you are using to do this?

A linux box with some FFMPEG magic is it?

Yes to FFMPEG, no to Linux. I'm a C# programmer so I'm using the AForge port/wrapper. Dead easy in the end (& so much easier than using Photoshop its laughable!). This question on StackOverflow got me started.
