Dha laithean anns an Eilean
Uill abair oidhche fluich is gaoith.... well what a wet n windy night on Friday
...Saturday morning did no look any better !
However up it was to meet our new Ghille Jamie with a view to doing the Southern Cuilthionn of Sgurr nan Eag and Sgurr Dubh Mor
Boy it can rain in the Gaidhealtachd !
We made our way from the campsite in pouring rain looking to gain the access at Coire Grunnda no easy feat in zero visibility ! however after a few probes we found the gap we were looking for and made the Lochan and stopped for some biadh
- Biadh Meadhan Latha
Bha I fluich fhathast ...... still wet
There is a fair scramble up the side of Sgurr nan Eag no need for ropes but care in the slippery Gabro and as we reached the first Bealach a wee bit clarity started to threaten
- Sealladh
Air an druim uill bha an ceo a fhalbh agus sealladh math gu Loch Corr Uisg
- Lochan Coire a Grunnda
The cloud was fair lifting now and for the first time we were treated to some fine views all round the sun even made a brief appearance .... gle mhath
- Sgurr Alasdair is MhicCoinnich
- Breagha
We were rapidly lifting out of the sgoth which was being dispersed by the wind and opening up dramatic sealltainn ....... what a place
- Sgurr Alasdair is MhicCoinnich
A grand wee Mullach is Sgurr nan Eag and easy enough to reach with extensive aspects over na h eileanan beaga
- Eilean Soaidh
We made our way back along the druim above Loch Coire Grunnda dropping again to gain the bealach onto the link for Sgurr Dubh Mor the weather was coming and going but a huge improvement
- Bealach na Druim
- Loch Corr Uisge
- Sealltach air ais gu Sgurr nan Eag
There is a fair scramble to gain the summit of Sgurr Dubh Mor so we roped up for the safety of it given the Garbo was still fairly wet so safety first
- Streapadair suas
On the summit there was a fair bit of mist around with wee gaps" ann s a sgothan" , she is a lofty perch Dubh Mor and the ground is like all the Cuilthionn very complex and exposed, it would no take much for things to go pear shaped that s for sure !
You double back onto the druim for the return which hooks you down into the Coire a Grunnda again the ground is no to be messed with slow and steady gets you there in the end !
- Ann a ceo
- An Uinneag
Ach bha sin i ...... once into the coire it was a straightforward walk back down the bealach for the path to the campsite the sun was now out and i caught a glimpse of ......mo dhachaidh shen ..Eilean Eige
- Eilean Eige is Soaidh
We were back at base for about 7pm a long 10hrs on the hill ,she is punishing ground the Cuilthionn and you feel her with every bone in your body !
I would tackle parts of the ridge without a Ghille ,but only on a clear day, with careful planning and by taking time to pick out a route ,you would not be wise to wander about here unprepared .
