Rather than sitting watching the rubbish on the telly on Friday night, and as it had been a rather braw day I decided on a spur-of-the-moment walk up Meikle Bin, it's only a 20 minute drive from home. I even managed to convince my oldest daughter (11) to come along. After reading an article in Trail magazine about walking your favourite hill but adding a different twist to things I decided to climb the hill and watch the sunset and walk back in the dark.
So parked the car at Todholes farm entrance and started following the usual route at about 20:30. From Carron Valley the sun sets towards Ben Lomond and was already starting to get lower in the sky.
- Nice summer night.
- Calm river & reservoir
Once through the trees we stopped to admire the views and take a couple of photos. Eventually arrived at the summit for about 21:45.
- Sunset over the hills.
- Looking over Stronend to the hills.
- Sunset towards Ben Lomond
- Sunset towards Ben Lomond (Zoomed)
- Fading light.
- Trying to get the trig point and the sunset - didnae quite work!!
Sat enjoyed the views having a coffee. Sat there till about 22:30 and made our way back down to the car in the dark. Certinaly adds an unusual aspect to a well known walk. Passed a couple of Frogs and a Hedgehog on the way down, first time my daughter had seen a real life Hedgehog in the wild.
All in all a very enjoyable wee stroll and a good way to spend a nice spring night. Quality time with the family and a walk as well. Disnae get much better!
Thanks,
/Colin.
