I finally had a few days off work so headed to Glen Shiel for some walking (got exams later this year so unfortunately have to use some of my holidays as study leave). I managed to flag down the bus in the layby and arrived at Cluanie to start walking at 9.50 - £6 for the bus but worth every penny given how warm it was, the walk back along the road would have been a nightmare!
I put on plenty of suncream and set off along the track to the first munro of the day. I met a group from Surrey on the first summit, it was good that the weather was so nice given how far they had come – I thought I had a long journey to the hills!
I saw a common lizard as I was heading up to Creag a’mhaim but it ran off before I could get a picture. Also saw grouse and skylarks.
There were some nice scrambles along the way, I haven’t done much ridge walking until this week but really enjoyed it, especially since the weather was so good and there wasn’t much wind.
I think this is a really great route since the hills themselves are good to walk along and the views from the tops are also brilliant.
The walk back down off Creag nan Damh was probably the most tiring part of the day since it was sheltered and warm in the evening sun and the path is fairly rocky but it was nice walking back down beside the waterfall.
