iPod / MP3

I often listen to a talking book (MP3 borrowed from my local library) when walking on my own, especially when on my own and if there is no visibility or a long walk out from a hill

My main reason for not listening to music when walking is that if someone is in trouble I want to be able to hear their whistle. Not that I've had to run to anyone's aid yet, but I'd hate to walk straight past an emergency because I'm unaware of it.

I tend to listen to some choons on the way back after I've done the grafting.

I tried it once and couldn't take to it so my ipod went back in my pocket. Prefer the feeling of solitude you get when you're out

Mind you thrash metal probably isn't walking music

Podcasts and audio books are handy on long winter camps.
