Heard of a novel way of raising money last week. It seems that small community in Scotland, to raise money organised a sponsored midge stand. The idea was that people stripped to the waist and then stood out in the midges. The longer you stood without moving the more money raised. Can you imagine doing that ? I dont think I would raise much money

Sounds a bit like one of those stupid things they do on "I'm a celebrity", there must be a million & one ways less painful ways to raise cash

This reminds me of the tale of the travelling preacher who visited a small settlement near Loch Maree. He preached at them until they could take no more, and then the villagers turned on him. They stripped him naked and tied him to a tree, leaving him for the midges. Many hours later they let him go, by which time he had been driven half mad....

Was going up Ben Nevis via CMD arête last weekend and came across a massive midge problem. I am usually used to them as I live in a place where there are lots of midges but this time I got bitten like a kebab at a children's party. Midges in Scotland are terrible!
