After a very pleasant evening/night near Arisaig I drove back to Lochailort and parked at Inverailort. The path to access the hills is well signposted and I was soon on the track that goes south of Tom Odhar and leads out towards the bridge across the Allt a’ Bhuiridh.

Once on the other side I abandoned the track and followed a burn up the hillside to go round some low crags. Heading south east across the flanks of Beinn Coire nan Gall it took me about 2 hours to reach the lochan on the ridge just below the summit. The rocky ridge of Drum Fiaclach rises above the lochan and looks very inviting.

Huge corries fall away from the ridge on both sides as it rises and falls over rocky outcrops.

There are good views out to Eigg and Rum

and the steep slopes of An Stac promise some hard work later in the day. The ridge sweeps round to the south west past a lochan and leads on to the first Corbett, Sgurr na Ba Glaise. The descent to Bealach an Fhiona is quite steep and is a good place to dump your rucksack before continuing up beside an old dry stone wall to the summit of Rois Bheinn.

If the view out to sea had been clearer I would have carried on to the west top but I had the steep climb up An Stac at the back of mind (and there was a cheese sandwich and a Tunnocks caramel wafer waiting for me at the bealach!). Suitably fortified I dropped down an awfully long to the next bealach and then climbed up through rocky terraces to reach the summit of An Stac.

The weather had perked up considerably by this time and I descended the ridge, climbing over Seann Chruach before dropping down in to the Coire a’ Bhuiridh and picking up the track back to Inverailort. Unfortunately I missed the short cut back to the car and ended up following the main track follows the river. It might be an idea to make a mental of the point at which the short joins the main track on your way out.
