First walk of the year, and eager to get one to get the legs going again. As the first one we picked an easy access one that was not too far but had reasonable ascent/descents.
A nice drive on quiet roads to get to the ski centre for 8:00am. Then straight into a steep ascent on a rubble path up towards the first Munro of the day. Got to the T junction then a short straightforward climb to the summit of Carn Aosda. As it was early we walked in hill fog to the summit so no real views (would only have been the ski centre anyway so nothing missed).
From here it was back to the T junction of the path and towards Loch Vrotachan. Fog was beginning to clear now so more to see, and as we were heading away from the Ski centre it was more scenic. Bypassed the Loch and headed on towards summit two of the day. It was breezy at the tops but this didn’t spoil the walk, and in good time we topped out on Carn a‘ Gheoidh. The fog was clearing now so nice views of the peaks around us and the valleys.
Short walk back to one of the Lochans and a quick food break with good views around us (and a break from the breeze).
Now was the final walk towards the final summit, not so scenic as we walked alongside the ski lifts but fairly quick climb to Cairnwell summit (and the masts!!). Was clear skies at this point and excellent views from the top. From here it was a fairly short scramble down one of the ski lift ways to the car park. Climb completed in under 4 hours; think the paths have been improved since the Walkhighlands report which has made the walk easier to do. We were happy enough to get the first one of the year done
