Have you lost or found some gear when out in the hills?

Gosh what an effort spiderweb....so frustrating hearing a bark and being unable to locate the dog...It makes total sense that he is stuck somewhere...the place has been scoured...it is very unusual to have no sighting whatsoever...I am sure no one local would have kept him with posters all around...if you need someone to be on the end of the phone when you do this caving business am happy to come over and do you think if we got a few folk together this undergrowth could be tackled on the railway line or does it need specialist gear...did it look like brambles?

Can't thank you enough Spiderwebb.... for searching again and again, and again and every one for thinking of us and our Benji.

We're so frustrated to the point of breakdown

Wild camping tomorrow till we conclude some thing, then don't know what else to do do

Be in touch as best we can

Me and Jac went over the area Spidey had heard the barking the first time, but with no joy.
We had his sqeueeky toy going and everything but to no avail.
Obviously we have no desire to stop Spidey from going over that area again.|
As many times as he needs to till he either finds him or is convinced he isn't there.
I hope to god he is.
Thank you all signing out now.
Bags to pack and sleep to catch up on.
Night night

Best of luck this weekend. At the risk of repeating myself (again!) I will be willing you on with all my might to find your beloved boy.

It might not have been a dog - roe deer make a noise like a dog barking, as an alarm call.

So do red deer: plenty of them around Drumochter.

Returned again today at layby 81 and went straight to the track and south covering the area of the burn with collapsed sleepers, but nothing. Didn't need to crawl through in the end.

Carried on south along track both sides of the fence and checked undergrowth this time, all the way to marker 51 on the track.

Then returned on the west side north as far as the small railway bilding and the pass of Drumochetr sign by the track but nothing. I recall the railtrack report mentioned between 51 and 54, well I got to 52 and from the Dromochetr Pass sign could see another yellow marker so presume that would be 53. 54 presumably close to Balsporran.

Frustrating !! I know waht you mean about deer making similar noises, but when you don't see another living thing and can't identify the source, well, you know what I mean, doesn't mean it wasn't deer but from my viewpoint that day, didn't see anything moving.

I was lucky when I lost Sam as I wasnt working at the time. Afetr this length of time searching not sure what I would do. Luckily he came plodding along a path opposite side of where he dissapeared but on the side most familiar.

If I'm honest I guess I would still be looking, but reaching a point where I think it would need to stop and rely on the posters and phone calls checking kennels, police etc. Only so much you can do, but heartbreaking nonetheless, especially not knowing. Sad day today.

Sorry it's taken me longer than planned but finally sat down and consolidated all the information from the past posts. To make it easier to update and share I've put it on a spread sheet on Sky Drive. Anyone with the link can view and update the information, if you do please try and be concise and relatively exact and stick with the format their (date, location, notes and name)

I've copied and pasted the main parts from each post so far, feel free to scan through for your name (or hit CTRL+F to search for it) and update / clarify anything I may have missed.

Here's the link http://sdrv.ms/13Lekl8 Hope it is of some help.

I am really hoping no news is good news in this instance.

I hope I never lose one of my dogs but if I were to, I would really want you guys on side. Everyone has been brilliant.

Still thinking of you Jac and Ronnie. I hope you have found Benji x

Tried to reply to all your posts last night but couldn't find the words.

We wild camped (first ever time we'd done it) near Loch Ericht on Saturday. First we walked from Balsporran and walked as far as we could to get nearer the loch. We got up at 6 the next morning and searched that area. We headed back, parked up in Dalwhinnie and set up camp next to the woods and closer to the loch, jetty and boat house (just down opposite Tom a Bhacain).

We cooked up bacon, sausages etc to see if the smell would draw anything out (in case Ben's hiding out there) but nothing. After searching around some more, we called it a day and came home last night.

Don't know where else to search unless we go over the same ground. Carrying a back pack of that weight has really took it's toll on both of us. I don't know what the most any one else has carried but we arn't big, or healthy people but we would keep going if it meant we find at least some thing, even his body.

Spiderwebb, we're so grateful you went out again and searched. What you've done over the past 4 weeks, for us, has been nothing short of heroic. That goes for every one else that has come out many times too.

Ryan, thanks so much for taking the time to do a spread sheet of searched areas, we'll update our info and hope others that have been out do the same.

Benji's story went in print in the Strathspey Herald last Thursday. It's about a half page and we're hoping that any locals will have read it and if they've seen some one with him and thought it suspicious, we might have gotten some phone calls.... but nothing :(

After a couple of days recovering, we will be out wild camping again. Don't know where as yet.

Again, thank you to every one that has helped in any way they could...

Hi,

Just been reading this post and must ask if there is anywhere that hasnt been searched? My dog Skye has just started on the Munro's and gets easily side-tracked by hares and other wildlife thought tires. I would be happy to help in any way I can. I live in Edinburgh and I know that area fairly well.

Let mw know if there is any way and I'll sort a day from Sunday onwards (as Im working nights until Friday morning.

I sincerely hope he is found safe & sound.

Best wishes
Pete

Hi Pete

Very kind of you to offer. If you read through, every where has been searched thoroughly. Unless there's a body hidden in the heather or under growth, or Benji has been stolen from some one that has found him in the past 4 weeks, then we just don't know where to suggest.

Thanks so much for thinking of us and Benji
