Freshly back from 2weeks of non stop eating and drinking on holiday, the first outing was bound to be a sair yin! A "wee ronnie" Beinn Each was selected to up the challenge from our recent trips to the Lomond Hills.
The cleggs made their intentions clear as soon as the car door opened. Kit was quickly put on one handed while furiously swatting with the other.
Setting off in the blistering sunshine we thought we had ditched the unwelcome visitors only to be molested once more as we stopped to talk to the land owner at the top of the driveway. We exchanged pleasantries wondering if he was the owner of some type of entomological weapon factory!
A brief respite from the searing heat was provided by the woodland before joining the track along to the helpful signpost. Once on the hill, the heat, humidity and cleggs ratcheted up to a new level, no long break could be taken without becoming literally a sitting target. This continued all the way to the summit where we ate our snack whilst trying not to ingest the beasties.
After a quick figure of eight on the summit we descended quickly, legs threatening to pack in after the steep ascent. Only the thought of getting the feet in the cool burn beside the sign kept us going.
Once back on the track the pace slowed, recuperating on the level ground and enjoying the shade.
The car showing 27 deg was an oven, thankfully the Inn at Strathyre was just a short drive away and a refreshment was enjoyed whilst we wondered what the hell we were thinking about putting ourselves through such an ordeal when we could have been sitting in the paddling pool at home.
