wed 31/12/08

after seeing the good forecast for hogmany i decided to climb this im glad i made the decision as it turned out to be my best walk yet.
parking off the A82 opposite kirkton farm and heading for the kirkton cemetery over the railway it was a straightforward climb following the fence line to the top.
i found the path ok but dont know if this would be this case in wet weather looks like it could be very boggy but as the temp was very low the path was frozen solid.
a hard slog up with no view was made very rewarding on approaching the first summit (which could be confusing in poor weather as i thought this was the top but this was about another 10min walk)
all of a sudden the sun was breaking through and then there was clear blue skies this made the sore muscles quickly dissapear as the view of all the munro tops appearing was stunning my first cloud inversion one which ill never forget.
all in the walk was 5 hours with 45 mins at the top and no rush to get back with the snow and ice (a few sore bums on the way back down).
i cant believe i forgot my camera on such a good day so ive tried with my mobile hope they come out ok

Good report Alan and a great inversion 8) - judging by all the trip reports there's been plenty of those lately. But where has all that great weather gone now :?

I deleted the duplicate pictures for you - if you have more you should be able to post them in another reply.

Love the 'hole in the sky' inversion one. The pic before the frozen burn - is that looking down the far end of the mountain or back down the end you came up? Beautiful pic of Loch Lubnaig...

Was glad to see those pics as I'm thinking of doing it soon - thanks...

I remember this day well as me and my mate were on Challum as well. It was a grand end to the year for sure. Were you wearing a red jacket? I have a photo of somebody wearing a red jacket taking a photo of the helicopter with a phone.
