We parked at the honister slate mine(£5 all day) and then took the track that heads strait up the hill to gain the top for grey knotts and brandreth. Head, towards the rising mass of gable crag and this will take you over green gable and the down through the aptly named windy gap then back up hill to the top of great gable. Atop this magnificent beast, if you have the weather, there are some great views of England's highest mountain and deepest lake and off to the coast as well. There is also the war memorial to the members of the fell and rock climbing club who made the ultimate sacrifice in the great war( being restored at the moment)
Head down off of great gable to styhead tarn where we had our rolls and feeling quite fit and refreshed we made the decision to take in great end
, so straight up the pass to sprinkling tarn then head up to esk hause and turn to go up to the top of great end which you then get more veiws but you can see were you have come from and going to. The plan then was to bag Seathwaite fell which we did. then we did a direct down hill over Aaron crags and back up to the col beneath base brown and bag this as well. With now wearying legs we headed back over brandreth and grey knotts and back down to the car. A good day out with some great veiws and physical challenges and the walk could be cut short or extended at many places to suit!!
