Munro Wild camp
Nothing Dull about this experience – let the video show you why Chonzie should never be described as Boring!! (skip first part and get to sunrise!)
This was a last minute decision to head on a wild camp as my family were all away on various missions, but I had to be back for 09.30am to get my little girl to a birthday bash! It was a smash and grab attempt
My options were limited and the only Munro I could fit in was Chonzie. The forecasts were differing with most suggesting clag for Chonzie! I headed up the shortest route via Glen Lednock and reached the summit around sixish! The clag was in and there were zero views.
I decided to pitch the tent just south east of the summit on a nice shoulder. I had about an hour of daylight left so got set about getting the tent up. As I was doing so I didn’t notice the cloud starting to break up a little. It was a slow process but little by little I started getting more glimpses down into the glen – perhaps I would get lucky!!
I cooked up my tea and as dusk settled in and the sun dropped then so did the clouds and soon the cloud that was skimming over Chonzie had now dropped below me and I was experiencing a rather nice dusk inversion. The sky lit up with a million stars – rather good! Would it last till morning…
I headed into my warm tent and had an ok sleep.
Woke at six – had a coffee and soon realised the sunrise would be great. I headed back to the summit and took as many shots as I could before my “get off the hill to pick up daughter for party” time limit expired!!
I wanted to stay longer as the sunrise was awesome (yes the clouds were really that pink!!). However I ended up having to leave the summit and ended up virtually running off the hill!! Got to car at 08.30 and even picked up the wee ones 15 minutes early. I then spent the day staining the decking and doing various chores!! Everyone happy- the beauty of a wild camp smash and grab attempt!!!
