Crap weather was forecast for the Highlands, but with clearing skies forecast for the Lake District, a plan was hatched for my first adventure to the area for me. Helvellyn via Striding Edge has long been on my mountain bucket list, so there was no faffing about deciding where to go!! I left a dreich Central belt around 7am and had constant drizzle on the drive down until I got to the border. Then it was like someone was just pulling back a massive curtain just in time for the sun rising. By the time I was driving alongside Ullswater, the weather was beautiful, and I was absolutely buzzing.

There's plenty reports on the route, so not too many words from me, I'll just share some of the photos from my day, a December day that felt like summer until around 700m. It was pretty gusty along Striding Edge which made it a bit nervy, but care was taken as I slowly made my way across the crest. For me, it was like a mini Aonach Eagach and great fun. There are plenty of bypass paths if required. Returned via Swirral Edge, also good fun, Can't wait to get down for more in 2014. A truly stunning day in a stunning setting :D

Glad you enjoyed your foray into the Lakes, Dave :D
Some really beautiful photos
The first one, of Ullswater, is taken from one of the laybys that I always stop at as I can manage to get down the steps there and walk by the shore
Hope to see you next time you're there!

A nice wee escape there Dave, have been thinking of going down for a weekend this year sometime. Looks like you picked a cracker to do, might just do the same.
