Cairngorm Corbett with no snow, but what a day!

What ! two good weather hill days on the trot, I can't believe it, after missing out yesterday a big effort was made not to miss out today. Forecast good so up and away heading towards Braemar to tackle the Corbett Carn na Drochaide 818m. All booted up and ready to go by ten past nine, bright clear day with hardly any wind, with a spring in the step crossed over the bridge shortly after leaving the Punch Bowl carpark at the Linn of Quo

ich and headed past Allanaquoich and then another estate cottage on my left, through a wooden gate and soon was looking at Allanmore house in the distance.

House of Alllanmore in the distance. The path was pretty level all the way with a couple of stream crossings but nothing deep.

After passing the house there are a couple of trees on your left head on up the South shoulder of Creag a' Chleirich either by the feint track or as I did straight up through the rocks

Further up I saw these deer grazing, still plenty of deer then!

The summit of Carn na Drochaide looking North, by now you will have gathered that there was no need to bring an Ice Axe or Crampons on this walk, as there was little or no snow on this walk

An old Scotts Pine hanging on to life, just!

I went a more direct line towards the track walking out which more or less followed the East side of the first burn I had crossed walking in.

Another roadside view with the snow covered Beinn a' Bhuird in the distance. All in all a fine walk with fantastic views all round, which made up for many wet and windy walks at the beginning of the year. Highly recommended for this time of year.

Hi there Scoob999, I thought it was a great wee hill, but maybe it was first time in a long time the weather conditions were favourable, hope you get the same! I see like me you have still Conachcraig and Ben Vuirich to do, I think they are my nearest ones now. Hope to catch up with you at last at the Ullapool meet, fingers crossed the weather continues, but maybe two weeks is too much to ask for. Any plans for this weekend?

Looked like a great day and as my weekend starts now the clouds are rolling in for tomorrow........

Had a bit of a double take at the deer photo, haven't seen any in that part of the world for years (although last October I heard some rutting deer near White Bridge but never actually saw them) - changed days from a few years ago.

A fine wee hill save for a clear day for the views! Your right about the deer, a few years ago ok maybe twenty when passing through Braemar early morning they were running about on the road

Certainly not a lot of snow left, just pockets of soft stuff, nothing on the summit at all, great views, made up for all the rubbish weather we have had for weeks! Pick well for tomorrow's hill!

Good to see the snow gone Rod as am hoping to do this one soon ma self. weather has been great all week but i fear it will not last as the golf season starts in 2 weeks so the snow may return and wind and rain etc

been out a couple times this week ma self but had to change hills to get away from the gamekeepers burning heather

Hi Benjaminnevis , pity about the hill fires, I also saw a small one down one of the glens to the East of this one. I gave up golf to concentrate on the hills, I get more satisfaction and time to myself, less frustration, too many bad shots and I found the weekend golf round was getting slower and slower, just so popular now. Guess your going to balance the two. Save this hill for a clear day, wonderful views on top, enjoy when you do it.

I had my one and only sighting ever, of a capercaillie when I did this hill.. (although I did it from invercauld)
Bonny wee part of the Cairngorms, possibly the best bit

Lucky you re capercaillie sighting! Yep a lovely area made even better after such a poor spell of weather, though that has not stopped you might catch up with you at Ullapool
