Meall Corranaich & Meall a'Choire Leith

I bagged the rest of the Lawers range last year, but I was never in a hurry to get these two. A lot of the reports really highlight the hellish boggy conditions, but I didn't think it was that bad. On the return leg I kept expecting the worst around every corner ... but before I knew it I was back on the outward path and heading back to the road and car.

It was a good short morning out with great views of Lawers and Ghlas.

Starting out across the peat hags and following the old metal fence posts.

I did these two in wet, claggy conditions early on in my hill bagging career. It's good to see what they look like

From my experience there's not many a Scottish hill that doesn't involve some degree of bog trotting and I don't recall these being the worst I've encountered. I think they suffer more due to being poor relations to the nearby Lawers group and the Tarmachan over the road.

I'm also a believer that every hill is a good hill (beats no hill, that for sure)

These hills give great views towards their impressive neighbours, another good reason to climb them. Love the picture of the lightly dusted An Stuc!

I hadn't realised my time until I was back at the car. Although I'm fairly sure my pace increased, after the summit of MCL, when I was over taken by a man on a mission. On the decent I seemed to keep pace with him (unintentionally ) about 200m back. My day finished at the car park while he continued on up to Tarmachan.

I did these last year and there was no bog at all....It was possibly the warmest day of the year after a long dry spell in July....The peat was dried solid....you could tell it would be bad after rain though.

I've never seen so many reptiles in Scotland as I did that day....every step on the walk back to the Lochan from Meal a Choire Leith sent lizards scurrying away in all directions.
