We were on holiday last summer in Ellmau Austria on a walking holiday with family. Only a few of us were brave enough to take on the challenge to walk to the Grutten Hutte, a famous Alpine club hut situated on the south face of the Wilder Kaiser, from our hotel in Ellmau up to the hut then onwards to Scheffau before the return leg of the walk back to Ellmau. we were fortunate the weather was good that day as we had been soaked the previous day doing another walk, plus once we arrived at the Grutten Hutte a great bowl of frittatensuppe was waiting for us though sadly space in the Hut was at a premium as part of the Austrian army had arrived just before our arrival & had taken up most of the room inside the hut. Our son Charlie who was 6 at the time managed the whole walk without complaint & was even the first one out of our group to make it up to the Grutten Hutte.

well done to you all for getting to the hut, those mountains look magnificent, as does the pint at the end.

What a great achievement for Charlie. Congratulations. Have been to Scheffau once in winter. Its a great place and the Wilder Kaiser looks like a good range for walking tours.
When I was in the german army many years ago we did walks in the alps as well as part of our training. It was always a great relief to have reached a hut where we could have a beer and some food.
Great pics btw.
