All hill walks are nice, but I find something particularly satisfying about starting from one valley and walking though the hills to finish in another. All you need is someone prepared to drive you to the start and pick you up at the finish. My partner Donna has had a number of hip transplants, and while long walks are beyond her she is happy to perform this function.
I had always heard excelllent reports about the Flowerdale forest, so on a brilliant day at the begining of June with just a dusting of snow on the highest tops, we drove round from our base at Shieldaig, parked at the "green shed" and walked up the path through the woods to Loch Na-h-Oidiche.

Donna returned from here and drove back to Torridon and having to chose one of the hills, I set off up Beinn an Eoin. climbing up steep heather I reached a diagonal terrace which led L to reach the huge sandstone slabs of the North ridge which I followed to the summit

I made the steep descent to the valley with some difficulty - it looks so easy from below -

and headed directly across the moor to the Dearg- Alligin gap, getting great views of the other side of Baosbheinn.

I had seen no- one on my hill, but as soon as I passed into Torridon - now in the shade - i was joined by dozens of others scurrying along the major paths . I made my way hurriedly back to the big car park to find Donna waiting patiently
