This was a short notice invitation - many thanks to Karen for inviting me  The forecast was good so who can resist an invite onto any hill
I checked my Munro record & was quite shocked to see that I climbed it in April 2000, I do remember that it had a good path & was not difficult, apart from that I have forgotten everything else
We had arranged to meet at the car park at 9.30am. After turning off the A90 through Edzell then onto the unclassified road, I had to stop a couple of times to check the map as I seemed to be driving quite a long way & was wary of heading in the wrong direction  I think it is 12 miles from Edzell, but as the road is narrowish & not built by the Romans, I couldn't even go at my usual speed
Arrived at the pleasant car park which is more than large enough for the amount of vehicles, certainly midweek & was just getting kitted out when Karen arrived & we were on our way at 9.30.
There is not much one can say about the route as the path all the way to the summit is in excellent condition & like a motorway compared to some paths. There is only one point where a decision is required as the path splits, after confirming our suspicions & checking the map we branched off to the right. It is then a straight forward route up to the summit. Here are a few photo's

If you want an easy walk, they don't come much easier than this, you don't even need boots

Hi Fife Flyer

One of my local hills this one. As you say an easy Munro (if there is such a thing) and one I've done half a dozen times. Always enjoy it, always intend to walk in from Glen Tanar but each time I find myself taking the shorter car journey to Auchronie.

Looks like you had good weather in the hills while I settled for digging the garden :( :( :( :(

For me, Glen Tanar was closer to drive to, still 2.5 hrs in the car each way... Found the walk-in in the glen more scenic than the Munro itself  The other side looks just as lovely. Nothing can beat a sunny spring day :D

Thanks for the comments

There isn't really much one can say about Mount Keen, it is a nice relaxing walk in & a nice easy path like a motorway right to the summit  For anyone who wants a nice easy walk & a Munro to boot, this is the one

Great view of Lochnagar, does look quite impressive 8)

Cracking report and good to see the sunny approach from Esk. We did the walk from the Tanar side so really appreciate the Esk side photos :D

Thanks for the company, Martin, not much to add other than what you've already reported. For me, it was a good warmup for the adventures that filled the rest of the week, which I'll post about in due course.

Lesson learned: Martin's fitter than I am!

Sounds good!

You say the path is like a motorway... Would I be able to fairly easily cycle up? I've just got an entry level mountain bike and looking to do a Munro on it!

Maybe, if i remember right, the zig-zag path up the plateau is a gravelly, rocky affair. Fine to walk on though.

Glas Tulaichean might be a better bet for a mountain bike. Solid path almost all the way up to the summit.
