Lovely day out on two very worthwhile mountains.
The description given is very good and doesn't need much expansion.
START: The layby is only about 2KM South of Crianlarich (from the junction of the A82 and A85)
The pull up to the summit of Sron Gharbh from the first track is pretty steep but the path is reasonably well defined, especially after the first fence/gate is reached.
From the summit of Sron Gharbh the path up the ridge of Twistin Hill is good and not too steep
with views opening up back along your route and all around.
The "cleft" in the path is no real bother and soon the large flat summit of An Caisteal is reached with grand
views.
The summit is a good place to linger
It also is a great place to view the path down and across to Beinn a Chroin.
The path up Beinn a Chroin is some great route finding. Quite well defined but very narrow and quite steep in places.
Great views on the way up and you will have to take your hands out of your pockets!
The path eases and the summit plateau of Beinn a Chroin is reached with good views back to An Caisteal
The path along the summit is easy to follow and does meander up and down but it does go on a bit!
Eventually a short steep descent into a bealach (ignore the path going off to the left) is followed by a short haul up to the summit of Beinn a Chroin.
Good views back along the summit plateau path and to An Caisteal.
the summit of Beinn a Chroin gives great views across to Ben More
and down South .
From the summit Re-trace your steps for only about 20 yards and then the descent path goes straight on rather than back left.
The descent path is reasonable although it disappears and reappears in some of the grassy sections.
It is mostly quite well defined
and scenic
After reaching flatter ground and crossing the stream there is a poor path along the left flank of the stream which disappears into boggy sections (even after a long dry spell). This is not easy walking and does go on a bit (gaiters are a real help).
Disappointing and a slightly frustrating finish to what has been an otherwise great walk.
Eventually the path joins the good track near the beginning of the walk and leads back to the start.
