If I was to nominate my favourite area of the Gaidhealtachd ? , to many to choose eh but at a rough thought I would normally look no further than ......
Na Garbh Criochan Tuath agus a Deas or The rough bounds from Loch Nevis to the foot of Loch Sheil and South to the Linnhe Seilach
Then again I am also partial to Western Perthshire especially Glen Lyon and Lochaidh where the language on the landscape of that beautiful country of Braigh Albainn draws something inside me.
I now have to add Torridon to this list ...where is it going to stop ? ffs .
20/07/14 Beinn Eighe - Usual route and the long trek into Choire Dhuibh Mhoir and up to the lochan and the scree access route onto the bealach
- Lochan Mhic Fhearchair
A wee bit overcast at this point but the promise of a burn was in the air and the scree is fine with plenty hand holds to keep the feet steady
- Druim an Iar
Once on the Bealach it is a straightforward haul left to Ruaidh Stac Mor
- Suas agus Ruadh Stac Mor
- Air a mhullaich
Bha an t side a thogail ...weather was now burning off rapidly and great views all round with Liathaich starting to show herself
- Liathaich
- Liathaich
and over to Beinn Eighe and Sgurr Mor
- An rathad suas
- Clach Garbh
Bha sinn aithghearr air a mhullach ... great landscapes all around .
- Mullach , Sgurr Mor
Abair duthaich a'Torbheartan .. quite a country Torridon a black and white hue to it but outstandingly bonnie !.
- Dubh is Geal
21/0714 - Beinn Alligin
We relocated to Sands at Gearr Loch for camping purposes as Mrs C likes a shower great campsite and handy enough for the drive back to Torridon although she had to suffer my Fergie imitations as wee drove the shore of Loch Maree ...
Show me Airigh `n Eilean, below me Loch Maree,
Leave me to my solitude and let me wander free
To climb the rocky mountains and search the glen below
For a fine ten pointer or a royal `o`.
A fine lyricist as Mr MacDonald of Moidart
Off up Beinn Alligin 9am no troubles in gaining the Coire and another breath taking day in the high country ....
- Beinn Alligin
- Druim na h eigeachd
A surprising quick but welcome ascent takes you to the summit and outstanding views
- Baosbheinn agus Spidean Coire a Chlach
- Abair Duthaich
We sat around for an hour before descending on and over to Spidean Coire a Chlach again easy going but with care as pretty steep drops
- Air ais
Agus a dh 'aithghearr air a mhullaich
- Carn
- Na h Eigheachd
- Baosbheinn a ribhist
I convinced Mrs C that a wee scramble over na h eigheachd would be a good route down and she fell for it
honestly not much to this "horns" and good craic if no a wee bit steep in places .
- Air Cuil
A wee bit over 8hrs for both these hills but a day for taking your time and acknowledging what a beautiful part of the Gaidhealtachd we have in a Torridon and what a diverse wee country we live in ...time to take your place in the community of nations Scotland .
