I really wanted to try and complete a few more munros this year but timing always seems to be the issue, either I am working or it has been too hot for Penny (the dog) So I thought I would try and squeeze in a couple of evening walks. I am glad I did as my sister and I had a wonderful evening at the end of June walking Meall Nan Tarmachan. It wasn't too hot and the views were wonderful. We set off around 6:30pm and didn't see a single person the whole route. It was disappointing whn we reached what we thought was the top only to look over and see the true summit  so we had to go down hill before heading up the final stretch.

Penny and me enjoying the summit although a slight breeze had picked up by this point and she was keen to get moving again

The perfect night to be out

We didn't really fancy walking back the way we walked up but didn't have time to do the ridge either so we found a small path that headed down the front, it faded away on the lower slopes but navigation was easy enough.

The week wasn't over... on the 03/07/2014 we also completed Mayar and Dreish... although this photo pretty much sums up the evening.

Thanks, yes I always really enjoy walking in the evening during the summer and have managed to squeeze in quite a bit but not all had such pleasant conditions. Whenever I reach a summit, the first thing I do is take a photo of Penny

That's a beauty of Penny at the summit! The evening light is great for photos and you've captured some lovely skies there. :D

Hi Sarah - great photos on what looked like a really good night. Think this is one hill I need to go back to - couldn't see more than a few feet the day I did it.

Really nice pictures, Sarah. You got a beautiful view of the ridge, even if you didn't get time to walk it. You had a superb walk anyway, by the look of things. The Tarmachan ridge makes a fine backdrop to Killin - I just finished my third holiday in that village on Saturday.

Great light and colours.

Early on in my hillwalking career I spent a night there at the car park experimentally bivvying in bin bags (!). Didn't get much sleep but there was a nice starry sky to enjoy when not shivering.

Penny the photogenic dog is back! Lovely pictures. :D I did this hill in thick mist and will be back for the whole ridge, but on a clear day.

Great evening walk and superb pictures. I love the light towards sunset - the trick is to get the timing right so you get down off the hill before dark.
