What a day. Made a decision late the previous week that if the weather held I'd start my holiday with a trip up to Fort William and climb the Ben the hard way. It held. I did.

Drove up from Newcastle on Bank Holiday Monday, to my sisters in Edinburgh and a 6 o'clock start on Tuesday morning had me parking in the North Face car park just after 830. Just to back track a little though, I have to say the drive through Glencoe was simply stunning, quiet roads, not many clouds some of which were sitting on the peaks, I would have stopped to take some photos but wanted to get up to the car park thinking as the forecast was good it may be busy. As it happened it was relatively quiet.

Not sure how much the total ascent or distance covered was ( I've added a guesstimate from other walk reports) as I managed to loose my GPS in the Lakes yesterday :( Since been found and handed into Cumbria Police, thanks again Dave Richardson and family :D

Anyway, enough of the waffle from me, let the pictures tell the story of a glorious day in the hills, a bit of a chill in the air when I left the car park, but over 20 degrees when I got back there that afternoon. Enjoy, I sure did.

Looks like this could be a very good day.
cmd2.JPG
Like Glencoe, just a little wisp of cloud on the top, hope it clears.
cmd4.JPG
Does this climb ever finish!!
cmd5.JPG
Well it did, eventually! Finally on the ridge with Aonach Mor behind. Sporting what will turn out to be a nice reminder of the efforts up to that point in the shape of a scar on my right shin. Some dastardly rabbit or other small animal decided to burrow down below an overhanging bit of heather just under a large rock, which I had the pleasure of stepping on, then in...OUCH!
cmd6.JPG
Cloud still there, really hope it clears.
cmd7.JPG
CMD up ahead.
cmd8.JPG
The Arete.
cmd9.JPG
I think it might just clear.
cmd10.JPG
Just got to get over this now.
cmd11.JPG
Hmm, don't look that way!
cmd12.JPG
Timing could be good!
cmd13.JPG
Great view, back the way I'd come.
cmd14.JPG
But even better to the South.
cmd15.JPG
The Arete done, easy peasy (Ahem!)
cmd16.JPG
Almost there.
cmd17.JPG
On top of the World, well GB at any rate.
cmd18.JPG
I am smiling, although it does look like a bit of a grimace!
cmd19.JPG
cmd20.JPG
Great views.
cmd21.JPG
Just a long tedious trip down the tourist path now. It never ceases to amaze me when I pass parents with children who don't have the right gear on and as far as I could see, no water, crazy, reckless people!
cmd22.JPG
It was rather warm by now and a stunning day.
cmd23.JPG
Not much of a path here, if in fact any, its more of a long bog, but as good a guide as any is to find and follow the line of fence posts.
cmd24.JPG
Wow, that's all there is to say, what a walk, climb, scramble, slip, slide, squelch of a day!

No, I'm not one of those "nutters" but I do tend to get a shift on when coming down.

At one point just as I was about to reach the top it looked like a bit of mist was rolling in from the south east, but it kind of burnt away as it reached the summit :)
