Corbetts and a Graham from Strontian

First day of the Argyll Mountaineering Club's September Meet held at the Ariundle Bunkhouse. A hazy yet dry day awaited us as we booted up and left the Bunkhouse at 0830hrs.

Heading on past the Public car parking area

Further along the track through the woods heading towards the disused mines. The track follows the River Strontian on the North side

After this river crossing the track beyond becomes a path after which after about one km the old mining area comes into view

Heading along the well worn but relatively dry path. Gradually climbing giving easy walking

I've heard of the Rocky Bounds of Knoydart but Ardgour is as every bit as rocky if not rockier

Skirting around Sgurr na h Ighinn at 766m on the South side and heading towards the bealach before the Graham Sgurr a Chaorainn

Looking towards the 766 top of Sgurr na h lghinn, at the beallach Captain Solo headed on towards his second Graham of the day Sgurr nan Cnamh and I headed on towards the West side of Sgurr na h lghinn climbing a steep grassy raked gully alongside a wee burn which after a flatter grassed area came out very near the summit cairn, which I continued too

As I was being attacked fiercely by sheep keds I did not hang about at the cairn but chose to head down the way I had come and went down the first gully West I could find. Although the boulder strewn gully was hard going and care had to be taken not to turn an ankle

After the boulderfield it was just a matter of walking down the glen following the stream until the start end of the footpath appeared on the West side of the burn at the mining area.

Looking back up the glen towards Sgurr Dhomhnuill. This section was probably the wettest and most uneven section of the whole day and my legs were beginning to feel the days exersions by then. Pity about the haze which never really cleared but a fine dry start to the weekend walking with the club, bring on tomorrow.

Pity about the haze but looked enjoyable nonetheless. See what you mean - the ground does look pretty rough going once you're off the track though - cheers

Hi Silverhill, it's a great walk indeed, save it for after a dry spell though the route coming down the Glen after the second Corbett would be pretty hard going in wet conditions and probably spoil what had gone on before.

Nice outing - rough, steep, pathless I haven't been to this corner of Scotland yet... No Munros, but the lower hills look great - so wild

The keds have been awful for the last few weeks. One even tried to wriggle into my ear!

Your right about the keds, but now it should be ok, it's normally only for a couple of weeks in September, luckily I had a buff on over my ears, but they were going for my eye brows and side burns Nice area to visit and no doubt if there were Munros you would hear a lot more about them, but really enjoying the Corbetts so far
